Gun Control Advocates in Oregon Legislature Pull a Fast One

February 23, 2013

On Wednesday I reported to you that the gun control senators in the Oregon Legislature had “backed down” on the major gun control bills.  Stand Down on Gun Control: I Told You So!  In that story I also related to you Jeff Mapes’s article from the Oregonian saying basically the same thing: Gun Control Supporters in Legislature Narrow Their Agenda After running into heated opposition.

Well little did we know that the Democrats had another plan up their sleeve.  From the Oregon Firearms Federation came this news:

Massive Gun Ban Introduced

Two days after Senate Democrats claimed they would not seek a ban on modern firearms and feeding devices, Democrats in the Oregon House introduced just that.

Seven Senators joined with eight House Reps to introduce a sweeping ban on virtually all modern firearms. Among the Senators is, of course, Ginny Burdick, who claimed on Wednesday “that she is backing off an attempt to push through a bill on gun clips that she drafted following the December shootings at the Clackamas Mall.”   The other sponsors are:

Remember them.

HB 3200 not only bans most modern guns and magazines, it allows warrantless searches of your home, requires background checks and registration for a firearm you already own and as-of-yet undefined storage requirements. We say “a firearm” because even if you comply with the restrictions in this bill you may still only own one.

(Of course the bill does not apply to “government employees”.)

The bill combines the most extreme and irrational elements of other bills that have been introduced across the country. For example, one of the firearms banned under this bill would be a pistol with a “folding, telescoping or thumbhole stock.” No, that is not a misprint.

The principle sponsor of the bill is House Rep Mitch Greenlick, who in the past has concentrated on such worthy endeavors as banning children in bike trailers and making possession of cigarettes a crime.

The bill bans such deadly features as “pistol grips” and “barrel shrouds” because clearly they add to the lethality of any firearm. These people are so full of hatred for gun owners they don’t even understand what they are banning.

Never have we seen legislation that was a product of so much ignorance and blind hatred. And don’t take any comfort from the claims that bills of this kind are not going to get a hearing. You will recall that last session they said the same thing about a ban on licensed carry in schools. They claimed it was dead and then revived it in the closing days of the session without even allowing public testimony. It was only your relentless efforts that killed it. And now we need you again. Please use our automailer to send a message to the legislature to do all they can to stop HB 3200 and any bill like it. You can use the message provided or write your own.

Here is the text of the bill: HB 3200.

This is one of the MOST oppressive gun control bills in US history.  Please use the “automailer” tool listed above and contact ALL state representatives and senators NOW!!

Would like to beat Ginny Burdick with a gunny sack full of old wheel weights! Once the wheel weights were soft, i’d heat them up and pour them in molds and save them for a Special Occasion.

Back in the 70′s when we lived in Klamath Falls, Oregon was a beautiful place and we considered moving back there upon retirement. Thank GOD , we did NOT. The state has been commandeered by the most vile of marxists, commies and liberal progressives from the socialist state of kalifornia and turned into a third world sewer and it just going to get worse. R.I.P. Oregon, you were once a proud independent state, now you are just the toilet of the comrade 0buma regime.

Sorry Oregon ya’ll have some real winners out there! Glad I live in Tennessee.

This is one of the most asinine bills I’ve seen. So my AK would require registration under this bill, but a Mini-30 firing the same round would not require registration, only the magazines. An SKS would not require registration, even though with stripper clips you can fire just as fast as with a 30 round magazine.

How are they going to keep track of the magazines? There’s no serial number. You can buy them anywhere.

If my wife registers an AK, and I register an AK, what happens if we mix up our registered magazines? If only one of us has an AK, can my wife and I each register magazines? I can have six magazines in the house for one rifle that way.

Can I hunt with an AR-15 with a 5 round magazine? It appears that is prohibited under this bill because it’s only allowed out of the house in transit to and use at a public or private shooting range.

Yet if I hunt using a Mini-14 with a 5 round magazine, firing the same round in semi-auto just like an AR, that’s just fine because there’s no pistol grip on the Mini.

I can’t have a barrel shroud on a weapon, but it’s okay to have a hand-guard over the barrel. They perform exactly the same function!

These people are just idiots. They have no idea what they are doing. They’re just bumbling along latching on to the latest fad without thought or reason. Stock on a pistol! Really? Their stupidity is only matched by their malevolence.

I sent individual emails to each representative and senator today. It’s amazing to me how some misguided people in our government push for punitive action against us law-abiding, honest, hard-working, taxpaying constituents despite evidence that these laws will not prevent evil individuals from doing unlawful deeds. If someone is willing to disregard the most serious law against murder, do these lawmakers think additional rules against guns will help?

It seems to boil down to a desire by these lawmakers to control people that they believe cannot be trusted to make wise decisions on their own.

By the way, comments such as those from DEL on Feb 23 @ 10:21 am do not in any way help our case.

  • Bill O Rights says:

Doug, read the bill. It bans a semi automatic firearm with a “shroud.” A ” shroud” is defined as, “A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel. Since any semi automatic rifle is going to have a “shroud” the bill effectively bans ANY semi automatic with a detachable box magazine.

However, in a true irony, the definition of “assault weapon” does not include full automatic firearms, it only includes semi automatics. So, you will be allowed to keep your BAR M1918A2.

    • Doug says:

      Bill o Rights:

I think you might be right. I think they are dumb enough to call a handguard a “shroud”, even though they are two different things. I stand corrected.

  • Robert Barnes says:

Take just one moment and wonder what would have hapened to this great country in the Revalutionary War if the individual gun owner hadn’t kept their
guns. Staring with, the British would have been dictating to us today. If you can’t figure out what would happen to us with the muslims on the war path around the world, read their Koran. We are in a very desparate time in our History. Check the back ground of our President and his anti war sidekicks.
