Sing the title to the tune of “San Francisco” by Scott McKenzie……but leave out the “flowers in your hair” and drop in “scare liberals half to death”.
I am so proud of our Oregon Patriots! Just as on January 19, 2013 with the “Guns Across America” Rally, today’s “Patriot Rally” will feature great speakers, some State Representatives like Kim Thatcher (R) who is a true Second Amendment rights advocate and of course the wonderful folks who will take time out of their busy day to attend.
In January, it is now confirmed we had over 3,000 (compare that with the 200 for the Universal Health Care rally this month).
There are some though that will be alarmed at seeing real live guns strapped to the sides of these patriots! According to today’s Statesman Journal article:
Oregon law allows people other than police to carry firearms inside the Capitol and other Capitol Mall buildings — but only if they have concealed handgun licenses, which are issued by county sheriffs.
“The law allows it,” said Kevin Hayden, who as legislative administrator oversees the operation of the Capitol.
“But if it is committing a disruption of a regularly scheduled committee meeting, we can’t have them in here. There are conversations we are having right now to make sure everybody is on the same page.”
Neither the House nor Senate will be in session. Committees are meeting, although none is scheduled to hear firearms legislation. Gov. John Kitzhaber, who has voiced support for gun-control measures, will be in Portland for previously scheduled meetings. There are House and Senate rules, a law and a constitutional provision against disruptions of legislative proceedings. The law, which dates to 1971, makes disruptions a misdemeanor without specifying a penalty. (what a bunch of weasels!)
Lt. Terri Davie, who leads the Capitol Mall unit of the Oregon State Police, said officers will inform people what the law is. Although there is no requirement to display a concealed handgun license, Hayden said clear clip-on badges will be made available and people who choose to carry firearms openly will be asked to comply voluntarily.
The firearms federation posted this statement: “If you do not have a concealed handgun license, loaded carry is not legal.”
As is standard procedure, more officers — both in uniform and in plain clothes, usually retired officers — will be on hand for today’s rally.
“It was one of the cleanest rallies,” he said. “When they were gone, you wouldn’t have known they were there. If every rally went as smoothly as that one did, I’d be happy.” (speaking of the January rally)
So, have a great time Patriots, be kind, respect others as I know you will and let’s not back down from our RIGHTS as Oregonians and Americans! Have a GREAT day and God Bless America!!
